If you have any period of active membership between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2024, and you do not retire before 1 April 2024, you’ll receive a one-off pension uplift of £215, plus an associated £645 retirement lump sum (subject to certain criteria, see Who won’t get the uplift? below). You do not have to have been a member for the whole of this period, and it applies if you are part time, in variable time employment, left USS after 1 April 2022 and prior to 1 April 2024 (but have not transferred out or taken a refund of contributions) or flexibly retired (but remained active) prior to 1 April 2024. This uplift will automatically be added to your Retirement Income Builder benefits which you’ll see in your summary on My USS.
If you’ve left USS but are eligible for the uplift, you will receive the one-off pension uplift of £215 but because we store and use the value of your benefits at the date you left USS as the starting point for our calculations, you would see a smaller uplift added to your benefits in My USS. Next time your benefits are revalued (for example when you request a retirement quote) the uplift will be increased to the equivalent of £215 as at 1 April 2024.
The uplift won’t be shown in your My USS benefits until early June.
