This is debt issued by governments typically in developed markets and are nominal or inflation- linked. Government Bonds tend to be higher-quality (often long-term) debt investments which can be useful for hedging the DB section’s interest-rate and inflation risks. USSIM predominantly invests in UK, US, or European government bonds.
The team behind USSIM’s asset allocation decisions
USSIM is the principal investment manager and adviser to the trustee - delivering the majority of the investment mandates through its in-house team and the balance through carefully chosen external managers. USSIM has an Asset Allocation Committee (AAC), which makes the strategic asset allocation decisions of the scheme’s defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) section investment portfolios. There is also a core team – Investment Strategy & Advice (ISA), which is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the scheme’s DB and DC investment portfolios.
