Helen Shay became a Director of Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited on 1 September 2020. She’s also a member of the Group Audit & Risk Committee.
Helen started her career in law firms before moving in-house to Next plc, as well as undertaking work for the College (now University) of Law.
Helen joined the Financial Ombudsman Service, focussing on resolving certain complex cases including pension-related, before moving to Skipton Building Society and ultimately the University of York in 2008, where she was the University's first In-house Counsel. Here, she set up the internal legal function within the Registrar and Secretary’s Department and worked with the strategic planning team.
As well as having a mix of both commercial and HE sector experience, Helen has also served as school governor, a Board member of the Association of University Legal Practitioners and with the Law Society on a number of initiatives (most recently being appointed one of their Social Mobility Ambassadors).
Helen is a pensioner member of the scheme.
